The Village Town Crier Volume 8, Issue 3 Fall 2011

The Village Quilt Shoppe 2369 Joslyn Ct. Lake Orion, Michigan 48360 (248) 391.5727

Carolyn's Corner

Well, this is my favorite time of the year. It's a time for inspiration. As the days turn cool, new and glorious colors pop out everyday. I actually feel sorry for those who live in areas where the fall leaves do not turn. The changing of the seasons is such a huge part of my inspiration. Ideas just seem to riot through my head with each change. My obligations and my desires are at odds. What I truly want to do is sketch, design and barricade myself in my sewing room. If I could get away with it, I could lock myself up for a month, not go to work, or answer a phone, un-plug the computer and QUILT.

Don't get me wrong, I love my job as editor of Quilters World, and my shoppe is such a huge part of my life, but I want more hours in the day to create.

I love that my husband is now doing a lot of the buying at the shoppe. He has a great eye for style and color. It's nice to see what he has brought into the shoppe. I still put in my two cents. I hope you are enjoying the diversity of multiple buyers, I am.

We have a lot planned for this fall and I hope you will be a part of it. The retreat is scheduled. I have a really different Block of the Month that I am working on for next year. Lighthouse needs our help more than ever so think about making a few pillowcases or doll quilts for them for the Christmas store. We are going to have a food drive also to help support the Lighthouse of Oakland County.

Some things will be changing at the shoppe. Watch for a few coming sales. One of the biggest changes is we are adding a Knitting Nook. We will be carrying better yarns and supplies not found it the chains. This is something we have been asked about for a long time.

We have a few published designers on our teaching staff; congratulate Sally Behrend and Nancy McNally on that.

Stop on in. The fabrics are here for your next project. Keep Piecing,

Carolyn

Stockings for Lighthouse

We already have a great start to filling the Lighthouse chest for the coming season. If you need a pattern for the stocking, we still have them and will be more than happy to give you one. Making stocking and pillowcases for the Lighthouse is a great way to use up your stash and scraps.

I know they were truly appreciated and were given to needy families in our community. Now don't forget we also have a food drop box in our foyer. Also, there is another great organization in the area named FISH. They collect food also. Now is the time to start if you intend to donate, either food or stockings and pillowcases. With the economy still a mess, there are many in need and I personally feel every child should have a Christmas no matter the circumstances.

This Year's Motto: Ditto!!!!!

Re-use, Re-purpose and Revitalize…… What can you do to make quilting a part of your everyday life?
