Carolyn's Corner

Well, life is good. For all of you who have asked about my son, I thank you. The news couldn't be better. Scott had his surgery on May 22nd and the outcome was great, better than we had hoped. It will be a long recovery, but a good recovery. Life will get back to normal at home and maybe I can work on a few of the ideas I've been kicking around in my head.

I have a book coming out late this fall that I have co-authored with two other designers and I have been doing some work that will be in a few magazines next year. I just love the design end of quilting and am very proud of the pieces that will be published.

Where the Pretty Bugs Live Quilt Show is planned for August 11, 2007. Now I want all of you to get busy and finish so we have I nice show. Remember it's all about the creativity. Do whatever you wish. Make it you own.

We have a cookbook in the works and we need recipes from our customers. If you have a favorite recipe you would like to share drop it off and we will put it in the cookbook. Now, is a great time to start your Christmas projects. Don't wait until fall when you are running around like a chicken with its head lopped off. We have a boat load of new Christmas fabric in and now's the time to start if you want to finish. Give that special someone the perfect gift this year. Have a great summer and drop in. The air is on.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Kathy Warren, Mary Asmus, Margaret Risinger, and Leigh Toubo. These four people have won our filled $25.00 punch card drawing for this quarter. Happy Spending! Don't forget to put your name and phone number on the back of your cards when you turn them in.

Email Addresses Needed!

Because of the ever increasing cost of the newsletter I have decided to change over to email as a way to keep the cost down. By the Fall of 2007, we will email newsletters. They will also be available on our website or in the shoppe. The web site has been updated and hopefully we can maintain it.

Recipes Needed!!!!

The Village Quilt Shoppe is in the process of publishing a quilter's cookbook and we need your favorite or special recipes to share. If you have a recipe you want to share, come in and pick up a form and fill it out. Get your name in print and have your recipe published for all to enjoy. We will donate a portion of the sales to Lighthouse of Oakland County.

WHAT"S NEW!!!!

  • Lots and Lots of Christmas Fabric!
  • Mckenna Ryan's Sea Breeze
  • Lots of new batiks
  • Star of Wonder Fabric Collection
  • New wools
  • Springtime Symphony by B. Siedlecki. The newest in stencil appliques.

Toys for Lighthouse

We have a great start on our chest. We have a lot of pillowcases and doll quilts already but don't stop. We need so many more. There are a lot of needy kids out there. Help make their Christmas a little brighter. Donate a pillow case, doll quilt, marble bags or whatever you can make that a child will love. It's a great way to clear out some of those scraps and make more room for new fabric. You have until Thanksgiving to drop off your projects. You make them and we will make sure they get to the Lighthouse of Oakland County and into needy hands.

Retreat in the works

We are planning a retreat this winter to Lakewood Shores in Oscoda, Michigan. So keep it in mind for after Christmas. We should be able to accommodate around forty women. We will have more information in the next newsletter.

NEW Block-of-the-Month starts July "Angels Among Us"

The new block-of-the-month starts July 1st. We will be starting our seasonal block-of-the-month and I am really excited. Just because we call it seasonal doesn't mean you have to do it seasonal. Remember the only rule we have with our BOM is use all the blocks. You make them any color, any size or any season. The whole idea is to make it your own. Again, the blocks are $1.00 a month, each month, any day of the month. If you don't make it in each month the block will cost you $2.50.

For your $1.00 you will receive an original design exclusive to the Village Quilt Shoppe, designed by me, Carolyn, and a piece of quality 14" x 14" background fabric. You can use the fabric we chose or something from your stash. It's up to you. The rules are designed so you can be creative. Come in and see the sample block and sign up today. We will have a Quilt Show in the Spring to show off all the masterpieces. Show dates to be announced later. Angels among Us is a six block program. Don't forget to come in and sign up.
