Carolyn's Corner

Wow! What a crazy summer. I am glad to have it behind me. I love cool days and especially cool nights. I have been working all summer on magazine projects and now two more book proposals. Starting with the Jan/Feb issue of Sewing Savvy I will have projects in their bi-monthly issues. I have a book that I co-authored, So Fun & Easy Table Fashions -Part 1 that will be out January 8th, 2008. I have really enjoyed all these projects. I hope you check them out.

We have some really great classes planned for this fall. Elizabeth is starting a Quilt of the Month. She will teach a different quilt every month so keep an eye on these. Sally is starting a new Block of the Month for hand appliquι. It's a whole new technique, so check it out. Chatty Cathy is starting her Machine Embroidery Club. The first meeting is September 16, so if you are interested, sign up. Cathy is also starting the On the Lamb wool workshop, so check it out too. We have some great classes coming up that would make really great Christmas gifts.

Our Where the Pretty Bugs Live quilt show was great! I hope you all got to see the quilts. First place went to Ginelle Rodriguez#10, second to Val Stephens #9 and third to Evelyn Phillips#2. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who finished and entered.

There's still time to do the Angels so sign up if you haven't and just wait until you see what the village has planned for the Under the Big Top. Hope to see you soon.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Lou Robertson, Shirley Michelin, Jackie Beal, and Gail Martin. These four people have won our filled $25.00 punch card drawing for this quarter. Happy Spending! Don't forget to put your name and phone number on the back of your cards when you turn them in.

Block-of-the-Month

"Angels Among Us" The new block-of-the-month is still available. Just because we call it seasonal doesn't mean you have to do it seasonal. Remember the only rule we have with our BOM is use all the blocks. You make them any color, any size or any season. The whole idea is to make it your own. Again, the blocks are $1.00 a month, each month, any day of the month. If you don't make it in each month the block will cost you $2.50. We will have a Quilt Show in the Spring to show off all your masterpieces. Show dates to be announced later. Angels among Us is a six block program.

Under the Big Top Circus Block-of-the-Month

Plans are in the works for a Family Fun Circus Festival in June 2008, so for all of you who have your patterns get started on your masterpieces. There's no excuse to not finish. You have 8 months to complete it. This is one you really should finish. It's going to be a blast. The whole village is going to participate.

Email Addresses Needed!

Because of the ever increasing cost of the newsletter I have decided to change over to email as a way to keep the cost down. We are now only emailing the newsletters. They will also be available on our website or in the shoppe. The web site has been updated and hopefully we can maintain it.

Recipes Needed!!!!

The Village Quilt Shoppe is in the process of publishing a quilter's cookbook and we need your favorite or special recipes to share. If you have a recipe you want to share, come in and pick up a form and fill it out. Get your name in print and have your recipe published for all to enjoy. We will donate a portion of the sales to Lighthouse of Oakland County.

Here's a Challenge!!!

Come in and purchase a mystery challenge. For only $2.50 You will receive a bag with some fabric and a mission. You will have until June 1st, 2008 to complete it and enter it to be voted on during our Family Circus Festival here at Canterbury Village June 6 & 7, 2008. Show off your talent and creativity!

    Toys for Lighthouse

We have a great start on our chest. We have a lot of pillowcases and doll quilts already but don't stop. We need so many more. There are a lot of needy kids out there. Help make their Christmas a little brighter. Donate a pillow case, doll quilt, marble bags or whatever you can make that a child will love. It's a great way to clear out some of those scraps and make more room for new fabric. You have until Thanksgiving to drop off your projects. You make them and we will make sure they get to the Lighthouse of Oakland County and into needy hands. Also, this year, if you wish to drop off a new toy, we will be more than happy to take it to the lighthouse. Michigan has a lot of needy good children who could use a smile on Christmas morning. Thank you in advance for all your support.
