The Village Town Crier Volume 5, Issue 3 Summer 2008

The Village Quilt Shoppe 2369 Joslyn Ct. Lake Orion, Michigan 48360 (248) 391.5727

Carolyn's Corner

Well the dog days of summer have arrived. I have my yard in ship shape and the windows have all been washed. The air-conditioning is on and guess what my plans are for the summer? I'm planning to stay cool and sew. I have a lot of projects I'm working on for the fall session and I am working on projects for two magazines. I finished my fourth book and book number three should be released in August. I am planning to vend at the Evening Star Guild Show in Davison July 25th and 26th.

Congratulations to Carol Fisher for 1st place for Under the Big Top and Susan Mortimore for 1st in the Challenge. Our quilt show Under the Big Top was really fun. I wish we could get more people to finish their quilts. It seems we have a dilemma: Everyone wants to see the quilts before they finish theirs, therefore we are receiving less and less quilts for show. Without the BOM members finishing their quilts we may have to stop our free quilt show. I love doing this event but I need the quilts to do it right. If you are a Block-of-the-month participant please consider finishing your quilt for show it is so much fun. I also would to thank all of you who have entered your quilts. You all have done such a great job and I have enjoyed each and every one of the quilts.

Summer classes will be light but wait until fall we have a ton of great things coming. Make sure to clear your calendar for some fun. We have our Evening with a Psychic back by popular demand. It's a great evening of entertainment and Bonnie is really great.

Our 5th annual Fabric Harvest Shop Hop is September 5th & 6th and the passports are on sale now. With the cost of gas think about car pooling with your quilting buddies, stop and have lunch and make a day of it. Read on for info on the hop. We have a retreat scheduled for October at Lakewood Shores and another in early April. We had a blast at our first retreat. There will be plenty of excitement and fun coming so stay tuned.

Have a safe and wonderful summer and sew plenty.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Ellen Wise, Nancy McNally, Judy Roberts and Marsha Laurent. These four people have won our filled $25.00 punch card drawing for this quarter. Happy Spending! Don't forget to put your name and phone number on the back of your cards when you turn them in.

New Block-of-the-Month

"Spookville, USA"

Spookville, USA is doing well. You can still join if you wish. We are on block 7. If you like Halloween and like to be creative, this is the block of the month for you. It's only $1.00 a month if you come in during each month to pick it up. $2.50 if you miss a month. Our quilt show for Spookville will be held in early October 2009 so you will have plenty of time to make a masterpiece for the show.

Fabric Harvest Shop Hop 2008 September 5th & 6th

Our fabric this year is a Kaufman Asian Line. It is outstanding and I have had a blast designing my store sample. We will still do our kits in fat quarters but instead of a large quilt you have OPTIONS. Each shop has designed a smaller project for you which would give you five projects if you choose to buy the kits or you could use the beautiful fabrics to create your own. This line of fabric is one of the prettiest we have ever used for the hop. Even if you don't like Asian fabrics they would make great gifts and you still have the patterns. What a way to get started for the holidays and still enjoy the hop. Passports are on sale now. The price is $15.00. Each shop has a limited amount of passports so sign up early.

New Birds of a Feather

Block-of- the-Month Quilt Show

starts July 1st

Well it's time again to start our six block BOM. I have listened to your requests and I am going to step out of my box and challenge you to do the same. Here are six local colorful birds for you to play with. Everyone loves birds (well, almost everyone). Again, the rules are simple, to enter the quilt show in May 2009 you only have to use the six patterns. You can do anything you want with them. Challenge yourself to try something different and be creative. $1.00 a month gets you the pattern and the background fabric. This time we are using batiks. Come in every month and it's a $1.00. If you miss, it's $2.50. This is your chance to challenge yourself and use up some scraps at the same time.

Our Lakewood Shore Retreat October 24th, 25th, and 26th, 2009
