Inspirations for tomorrow's heirlooms……. Where OPTIONS are a must……..

Carolyn's Corner

Autumn is my favorite time of the year. Only in the autumn is death so beautiful. The colors are so warm and brilliant and the evenings become cool. (Cool…that's real important when you hit my age.) It's been a crazy year. I am ready to slow down and enjoy the view. I want to be inspired by nature. The colors are so rich and they seem to speak to me. They tell me "I want to be a quilt". I seem to have more ideas than time. I have been really busy with Sewing Savvy and Quilters World. I have some really fun projects coming up in both magazines. I am working on book # 6. Only two of them have been released to date. I work way ahead.

We have some really fun events coming up. Our retreat was such a success earlier this year that we are going again. Read on for more info on the retreat. The village is sponsoring a Charity Tree Auction at Kings Court Castle here in the village. This is going to be a really big event. If you know any businesses that would like to be involved just contact me. Each business sponsor names their own charity. I will be dong a tree to benefit Lighthouse of Oakland Co. We have the Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece by Piece Exhibit coming to the village in February along with Ami Simms and some other really big names.

YOU ASK FOR IT SO HERE IT IS. My version of a block exchange: What's up, Cupcake? Come in and get started. Our block-of-the-months are moving along great! Spookville is really moving along and some of you have some really fun ideas. I can't wait until the quilt show in October 2009. You have lots of time to get this one done so no excuses. Birds of a Feather seems to be a real hit. I am so glad you all love it. For the Thimbleberrie Club members we will have out annual Thimbleberrie Breakfast December 6th. Read on. And finally we have our annual Snipe Night and Mystery. Make sure you register early because the seating is limited. I could go on and on but maybe I should let you read about that's coming.

I wish you a glorious fall and happy quilting. Hope to see each and everyone of you soon.

Be inspired by nature. Carolyn

Block-of-the-Months

"Spookville, USA"

"Birds of a Feather"

Spookville, USA is doing well. I can't wait to see all the finished qults in our show next fall so be creative and get going. No excuses, you have plenty of time to get it done. And the Birds of a Feather seems to be a really big hit. The Quilt show for the birds is scheduled for Mother's Day 2009. You still have time to get in on the Birds if you wish. It's better to be late than never. It's only $1.00 a month if you come in during each month to pick it up. $2.50 if you miss a month.

What's up, Cupcake? Block Exchange

Well, here it is! Our block exchange. Come on in and get your pattern free. Go home and dig through your scraps and embellishments and create 12 cupcakes. Bring them back to the shoppe by January 15th, 2009 and we will mix them up and return to you 12 different blocks. Oh, what fun! These will be displayed at our Mother's Day Quilt Show.

A lot of our local businesses and schools are participating. The trees are going to be gorgeous and truly worth the trip to see. We will be taking silent bids until the finale on December 14th. Local businesses and non-profit organizations can pick up the info here at the shoppe or at the Always Christmas store. Plan to attend, it's going to be spectacular.

Auction Finale is December 14th, 2008. 5:00-8:00pm

The final bids will be announced and the trees can be taken at this time. Remember that all the proceeds go the charity named on the tree. There will be great dinner specials each day and a cash bar. We will also have a band on the 14th.

Alzheimer's Quilt Exhibit is coming to the Village in February with Ami Simms

The exhibit will be here in the village at Kings Court for a whole week. We are planning some great events that week. This is an exhibit every person should see wither they quilt or not. Alzheimer's touches everyone's life in some way and it is a cause that every person should be aware. Ami Simm's mother has this decease and has helped immensely to bring awareness to so many. There will be a couple of luncheons with some great world renowned quilters and speakers, and auction that all proceeds go to AAQI to help in research. This exhibit will move everyone that sees it. The stories behind it are so moving. I also have a reason for wanting this to come here to the village. My very best friend and her family are going through this ordeal with her father. Clint is a wonderful human being and has so much good to offer this here world. It's so hard to see him slip away and how it is affecting his family. My prayers are with them all. Please find time in your busy schedule to come and see this and participate in the other events. We hope to rise a few bucks for research. After all, some day all of us may need the benefits of the work they are doing now. To find out more about this organization go to www.AlzQuilts.org. Read about the Alzheimer's Quilt Auctions and plan to make one for our auction, here in the village.

Toys for Lighthouse

Our chest is already starting to fill up. Thank you so much for your donations. Doll quilts, pillowcases, and marble bags are always welcome. We have a lot of needy families this year in our area so if you can help, it's does make your heart feel good to brighten someone else's day. We will be taking donations until November 23rd.
