Carolyn's Corner Happy New Year!

2008 was a great year. I've been so busy with the magazines and books. I have a lot of really fun projects coming out in Quilters World, Sewing Savvy and I am working on book number eight. I love designing. I also have been busy with fun new ideas for the shoppe. Our new block-of-the-month starts in January 1st and we are also doing a pieced block-of-the-month using the best of Thimbleberries. It will be a work in progress. We have the A.A.Q.I. Forgetting: Piece by Piece Quilt Exhibit and Health Fair coming in February so read on about that big event. Our cupcake exchange is due January 15th, so get busy if you haven't already done them. It's going to be a lot of fun.

Check out our Breakfast Club and as always the coffee is always on for the Sit and Sew every Monday morning, 10:00am-1:00pm.

Elizabeth is starting a Stash Management 'Sewority', so be sure to check it out. I know I sure could use that class. The class will be packed full of great ideas and projects to use up your stash and organize it too. Out with the old and in with the new. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us.

A special thanks to all my loyal customers. Our 5th Anniversary is coming up!! I couldn't have done it without you. We will be having refreshments and special sales on February 12, 13, & 14th so come and help us celebrate!!!

We have some great classes planned and new fabrics coming in all the time.

Stop by and say hello! Carolyn

A.A.Q.I. QUILT EXHIBIT, AUCTION & HEALTH FAIR

Alzheimer's Quilt Exhibit is coming to the Village in February with Ami Simms

The exhibit will be here in the village at Kings Court the week of February 18th. We are planning some great events that week. This is an exhibit every person should see whether they quilt or not. Alzheimer's touches everyone's life in some way and it is a cause that every person should be aware of. Ami Simms, the curator for the exhibit, has recently lost her mother to Alzheimer's, and has helped immensely to bring awareness to so many. There will be a luncheon with some great world renowned quilters and speakers, but the dates are not set as yet. I want to give Ami time to deal with her grief, family and emotions. Check with us at the shoppe for the dates. There will also be an auction that all proceeds go to AAQI to help in research. This exhibit will move everyone that sees it. The stories behind it are so moving. Take time to come and see this moving exhibit and participate in the other events. We hope to raise a few bucks for research. After all, some day all of us may need the benefits of the work they are doing now. To find out more about this organization go to www.AlzQuilts.org. Read about the Alzheimer's Quilt Auctions and plan to make one for our auction, here in the village. If you know someone who is going through this in their own family please encourage them to come to the Health Fair that will be here. There are so many organizations that can help and this will be the place to get that information. We quilters CAN make a difference.

Toys for Lighthouse

Well we made a sizable donation to the Lighthouse of Oakland County's Christmas store. I'm sure that all the pillowcases and doll quilts all of you made are being used at this moment. They are a favorite in the store. Our chest is empty now and you can start dropping off for next year any time. Thank you so much to everyone who donated.

This Year's Motto: Clean, Organize, and Finish!!!!

The Village Quilt Shoppe will be closed January 6th for Inventory

Thimbleberries Club Block-of-the-Month

Each month we will give you a 12 ½" block pattern with the fabric to make it, all in Thimbleberries. We will also give you a 6 ½" pattern to use with your left over scraps that you have been stashing away trying to figure out what to do with them. The cost of Club is $5.00 a month. The quilt setting will be a work in progress. We work together with each member to make their quilt unique and a one of a kind. This year we want to help you clean out some of your stash, organize, and finish up projects. Our meetings are the first Friday & Saturday of each month at 10:00am. I think we will have a blast this year. Also check out Elizabeth's Stash Management "Sewority" class.

Sewing Glossary

Walking Foot Machine - It has a feed mechanism consisting of two presser feet working together and so arranged that they press down alternating upon the work, appearing to walk across the surface of the fabric. This type of feed is also known as alternating presser feet. Walking foot sewing machines are especially useful in situations where the materials being sewn together are difficult to feed through the sewing mechanism consistently.
